This workshop offers a place where voice, movement and image intersect, creating a unique opportunity for participants to discover their own personal inner richness. After beginning with breathing techniques and a detailed vocal and movement warm-up, participants work with the voice and body as instruments for exploring range, timbre, gesture, resonance, character, landscape and rhythm to uncover the fundamentals of performance of connecting to the world.

Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble consists of some of the finest and most adventurous singer/performers active in new music. Reflecting diverse backgrounds and interdisciplinary approaches to performance, members past and present share Monk's process for creating work.

Beginning with breathing techniques and a detailed vocal and movement warm-up, participants
work with the voice and body as multifaceted instruments for exploring range, timbre, gesture, resonance, character, landscape and rhythm.The work aims to uncover the fundamentals of performance as a vehicle for spiritual transformation. Selected pieces from Monk's repertoire will also be taught.

Goals:

- To find a balance of structure and spontaneity, freedom and form.

- To begin to build the "feel" of an ensemble, both in rehearsal and performance.

- To provide a springboard from which participants can discover and develop a personal viewpoint and means of expression.

There are no required abilities, but some prior performing experience is best, and an open-ness and comfort with working both physically and vocally.

The workshop will be held at the Tyršův dům, Újezd 450/40, Prague 1, (you can contact us for more information how to get there). The workshop will go on from 9.30 a.m. till 12.30 a.m. and from 2 p.m. till 4:30 p.m. The price is CZK 1750,- / 1550,- for students, retired people and people on parental leave.
