Thursday 15th - Sunday 18th July, the Premonstrate Monastery in Želiv

Traditional Georgian polyphony is the oldest of its kind in the world. This tremendously gripping music developed in pre-christian times and since then has been a part of everyday life. The participants of the workshop will get a chance to learn various songs - working, battle, dancing, lyrical, spiritual; singlevoiced and polyphonic songs from various parts of Georgia.

Tamar Buadze is an excellent musician. Born in the Georgian town of Rustavi she studied singing, choral direction and conducting at the Tbilisi State Conservatory. She established several vocal choirs and she is a member of the internationally recognized Georgian women´s choir Tutarchela, which she has been leading since 2008. As a member of Tutarchela and a workshop lecturer she has participated in prestigious festivals.

The workshop will be held in the beautiful surroundings of the Premonstrate Monastery in Želiv, about an hour´s journey from Prague. The participants will be accommodated there and have meals if they wish. There are 2-4 beds in each room.

Arrivals are planned for Thursday late afternoon, departures for Sunday around 6 p.m.

At the opening of the workshop the documentary Like Air to Breathe will be shown. The film, made by Ruth Olshan, a German documentary movie director, is about contemporary Georgian folk music. Tutarchela appears in the film. The film trailer:

Arrival of the participants in Želiv is planned for Thursday afternoon or early evening. The official opening will start at 8 p.m. with the documentary Like Air to Breathe (with English subtitles). The workshop will last from Friday, through Saturday and Sunday, each day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Sunday at 4 p.m. a presentation for invited guests will take place. The workshop will be held in Russian and interpreted into Czech.

The participant´s fee: 1.900,- CZK + accommodation in the monastery (price per person):

double room, a bathroom + breakfast: 1.110 CZK (3 nights for 370,- per person)

double room + breakfast: 930 CZK (3 nights for 310,- per person)

triple or more room + breakfast: 720 CZK (3 nights for 240,- per person)

Due to the limited number of rooms of various standard bookings will be made as the applications arrive. It is possible that at the moment of your application the room of your choice will not be available and you will be offered another option. Consequently we will apply the rule that the reservation made at the moment of receiving your application will be valid for one week after being confirmed by email. Your place in the workshop will be booked as well as the accommodation of your choice. If your payment is not successfully transferred to our account within one week, your reservation will be canceled.

You may pre-book lunches and dinners (including vegetarian meals) in your application. Price per meal is 70 CZK.

There is another option for accommodation in a guest-house in Želiv.

Due to the difficult bus connection from Želiv to Prague on Sundays we are considering the possibility of hiring a minibus for the return journey to Prague. A ticket would cost 280,-/300,- CZK depending on the number of travellers ( minimum of 5 people). The transport will be negotiated with the participants in June.
