AHMEDOVA Ridina (CZ)

Ridina AHMEDOVA (CZ)

She was born in Prague. She is of Sudanese origin from her father´s side and half- Czech half-Russian Jewish by her mother. Until the age of four she lived in Bohemia, then for ten years in Oran, the biggest Algerian port. Since 1988 she has been back in Bohemia.

Her first professional style was jazz - she performed with a jazz trio for a few years. After that, seeking a more authentic expression and her own more realistic voice, she set out to explore less known vocal territory. She cooperated with Tomáš Dvořák/Floex on CD Pocustone (2001)(see for example the play Candi Ski) and later the live performance of the project Floex. She is the author and co-author of music to several dance and movement performances (Life according to a Mayfly; It´s so lovely, isn´t it?; Secret or I Want to Run as a Mad Horse etc.). She participated in making film sountracks (Vaterland, Pusinky, Fimfarum 2). She cooperated with various musicians (Jan P. Muchow, Monika Načeva, Vladimír 518, Vojtěch and Irena Havel, Jaroslav Kořán, Sylvie Krobová and others). In 2008 she was invited as a guest of Bobby McFerrin at his concert in Prague for group improvization.

In 2003, her solo project of Hlasokraj had its premiere. It combined projection and live concert, for which she was awarded Next Wave in the category The Discovery of the Year. In 2006, her solo CD „Hlasem" (In Voice) came out.

She is interested in variability of voice as a solo, unaccompanied instrument. Through her workshops, she is trying to present the participants with the explanation of how meaningful, purifying and strong singing is without being necessarily aesthetically appreciated.
