We would like to invite you to take part in a two-day workshop focusing on group and solo singing lead by a member of the world famous ensemble New York Voices.
Lauren Kinhan is not only a distinctive singer, she is also a composer and arranger. During her Prague workshop, Lauren will share experience she has gathered over the years in interpreting and arranging vocal compositions. You can apply as soloists, or in order to train your vocal skills as part of an a cappella choir, and entire vocal groups are welcome as well.
Lauren asks participants to bring along 1 or 2 compositions that they would like to work on. We will concentrate on work with texts and vocal techniques. Please bring printed texts and music in the key that you sing it in. Jazz standards, new interpretations of pop tunes and original compositions are all welcome. The main principle of our work will be creativity.
Those who would like to join in and become a part of the workshop jazz vocal ensemble will obtain two compositions in advance via e-mail. We will explore and refine them together. We will work on dynamics and explore how each singer can contribute personally to the compositions. We will talk about the tone and texture of the voice, about dynamics, about the intertwining of voices, about the use of vibrato etc. – about everything that is important from the moment you receive the music up to the actual performance.
Already existing vocal groups are also welcome to take part in the workshop, where they will get a chance to consult compositions they sing in order for vocalists to improve their interpretation.
The weekend will end with a chamber concert exclusively for participants at which Lauren, accompanied by a pianist, will sing jazz standards and her own compositions in a way that will demonstrate the possibilities of modern and progressive jazz expression. A discussion will follow the concert.
Singers of all levels and skills are welcome.
