10th October: INTERACTION - rythm exercices for singers

INTERACTION - rythm exercices for singers

led by Manu DOMERGUE (FR)

Saturday 10. October, Prague

It all starts with rhythm. The heart beats, the body moves and walks, this is how music begins.

Manu Domergue is a singer and plays the french horn. He leads his own band, RAVEN, where he plays, sings and tells stories. He has been a part of many projects and partnerships with groups like MAGMA and the French-Malian Band LANAYA. He has also played with Roy HARGROVE, Riccardo DEL FRA and Monica PASSOS among others,… "I've seen and experienced both sides of the stage: being the frontman, a mic in my hand and making sure to connect with the audience, and also being the sideman next to singers and other instrumentalists. These helped me realize that the more rhythmically solid the soloist is, the freer the rhythm section becomes. Being aware of your own sense of rhythm means that you care about the people you play with. Working on your rhythm lets you give the players the freedom not to be just a rhythm section that accompanies and supports you, but part of a collective music. Rhythm makes it possible to build something together."

This workshop will be based on rhythm exercises that we will practice in groups, using our bodies and voices. Improvisation will be a part of the game, in order to experience musical freedom through your own inner rhythm.

Manu Domergue sings and plays the French horn and the mellophone. He has a degree in jazz and classical music from the Valence Conservatory in France. He has also studied vocal jazz in California (on a Fulbright Scholarship) with the acclaimed vocal educator Roger LETSON. He entered the National Conservatory of Paris (CNSM) in 2009, where he met Riccardo DEL FRA and Glen FERRIS, among others. He has played for a variety of events and projects such as : Loïs LEVAN Sextet (Jazzman Revelation 2014), The New Large Ensemble of Carine BONNEFOY, Brazilian singer Mônica PASSOS, Roy HARGROVE, MAGMA, Django d'Or 2005, LANAYA (French/Malian band), B R OAD WAY (pop)…

The band was selected for many contest and especially the Crest Jazz Vocal contest 2013, where it won 1st prize from both the jury and the public. The first album "Chercheur d'orage" released in January 2015 was awarded " Essential" by french magazine JAZZ NEWS.

"When Domergue is not singing, he is reciting, playing an instrumental as if he were playing a part, the same coherent role from the beginning to the end of the performance, a little nuts, eccentric and more than fascinating"
