14–16 June – Listen to the silence – Laurie AMAT (USA)

LISTEN TO THE SILENCE - Voice, Body and Improvisation

led by Laurie Amat (USA)

14th - 16th June, Cistercian monastery Plasy

By words of lecturer: "Listen to the Silence" is an all day vocal exploration laboratory, where we will work on developing basic vocal use, integration of voice into body and developing listening techniques for solo and group improvisation. We work in a small private group of 12 people or fewer which allows for more freedom and individual attention.

ZWe will first work with basic warm-up techniques to strengthen breathing, posture and body attitude, loosening our muscles in order to allow full opening of the voice. Once we are warmed up, we will explore movement of the voice within the body, recognition of sensation and the sensuous pleasure of sound and physical movement. Play ranges from solo improvisation to small and large group work. We will expand our perspectives, making only sound and making only silence, learning the importance of space, and the surrendering of ego in order to sing truth. We’ll play with our bodies and voices to free ourselves from self-consciousness and create our own personal tools to enable freedom of expression. We'll expand the concept of "singing" and "instrument", oh yes...it's gonna be fun.

Although I believe vocal technique is essential, I take a sensual, visceral and instinctive approach to vocal expression, and provide a low pressure and supportive environment to encourage each of you find your individual voice. And "Listen to the Silence" isn't just about singing, it's about sound itself. When we choose to make sound, we become open, vulnerable and at the same time brave and powerful. We are Warriors and Warriors can have fun too.

The workshop will take place in the area of Cistercian monastery Plasy, which will be open to our participants not only in the day, but also after openig hours, to let them look for in various areas and improvise in privacy and undisturbed.
