18–19 August – Meeting your voice – Iva VOSTÁRKOVÁ (CZ)

Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19, 2007
MEETING YOUR VOICE – Iva Vostárková

In her own words:
“The voice is our ancient ability to express emotions,  the voice in itself is communication, it is able to contain our entire existence: sadness, disappointment, anger, love. It is present at our birth as well as at the moment of death. The voice doesn't just carry verbal messages nor is it a servant of the process of thinking. We can skillfully lie with words but never with out voice.

In today's social and family context, we often lack courage to express ourselves naturally. Rather, we imagine what impression we should or would like to give and therefore we often suppress our natural, unique potential. We invest energy into how we wish to be perceived instead of into what we really are. Thus, our individual, unique voice, which truly expresses our qualities, remains hidden, restricted, suppressed, doesn't sound in its fullness.
Our work together will above all consist of searching, so that we can meet who we really are. We will try to change our relationship to our voice, purify it, liberate it. We will strongly employ our imagination, emotionality and we will realize that the voice is a motion which turns the entire body into an instrument.”
Iva  Vostárková works with the voice in the fields of both the arts and therapy. Currently, she gives voice development seminars at the Theater Academy (DAMU) in Prague. More information about Iva  Vostárková can be found in the Lecturers section.

On both days, the workshop will take place from 10am to 6pm with a lunch break. The location is in the vicinity of beautiful nature surrounding the  Modrý Ostrov studio,  Dolnočernošická 443, Praha 5 - Lipence, see www.modryostrov.cz (15 minutes by train from Smíchovského nádraží, exact directions after registration).

Voice teacher Ivana Vostárková has been active at the Prague Theater Academy (DAMU) since 1995. Apart from professionals (actors, singers, show hosts, speakers, teachers, etc.), she also gives therapeutic sessions. She works with vision-impaired people, people with auditory, vocal and other deficiencies but also with professionals from diverse fields. In individual sessions as well as group seminars, she helps discover the natural abilities and potential of the voice, its uniqueness and individuality. Through awareness of our body as a wise instrument, we became aware of ourselves and thus remove inhibitions impairing our communication skills.
