Wolfgang Saus

Wolfgang SAUS (Germany)

Although he eventually received scientific education (physical chemistry), Saus already took up singing as a child.
As both a choir member and a solo singer, he performed with over 60 European ensembles and had the opportunity to work with many major professional singers (e.g., the King Singers) and choir leaders. He sang to earn money for his studies.
He first encountered overtone singing in 1983 and was immediately enchanted by it. He started exploring the technique intensively and when he realized his scientific career did not leave him enough time for singing, he decided to dedicate himself to singing entirely.
Currently, he is one of the best overtone singers in the world (in polyphonic overtone singing, he can probably only be matched by Christian Zehnder and Stuart Hinds). Saus is able to sing Baroque composition in two-tone harmony. He gives overtone singing workshops around all Europe. Recently, he has summarized his broad knowledge into a first comprehensive book on overtone singing ever published in the German language.
Wolfgang Saus has also made a major contribution to the organization of overtone singing: he has founded a large website (www.oberton.org) which has already facilitated contacts between many international overtone singers. He is also the co-author of the Overtone Analyzer computer software, see www.sygyt.com.

In Aachen, Germany, Saus has founded an overtone choir.
