STANDEN Verity (GB)

Verity STANDEN (Great Britain)

Verity Standen's work as a composer, musical director and performer explores the human voice and how it can be celebrated and transformed through live performance.

Verity's immersive choral piece HUG won the Off West End TBC Award 2016 and was nominated for The Arches Brick Award and a Total Theatre Award.

As well as touring her pieces HUG, Mmm Hmmm and Symphony across the UK and internationally, Verity is currently composing for a contemporary dance opera, which will premiere in 2017. She is also researching a sound design project for inpatients at London hospitals, exploring ideas for a choral piece about conscientious objectors in English Heritage sites and recording a soundtrack for an independent documentary.

Verity trained in music at Dartington College of Arts. She is now based in Bristol. In addition to her solo work and running her choir 'Utterance', Verity regularly collaborates with a range of artists and companies across the UK. Recent freelance composition projects include: Medusa (Bristol Old Vic), The Light Princess (Tobacco Factory Theatres) and By The Light Of The Fool Moon (Hocket and Hoot).

Verity regularly works as an outside eye and ear to a broad range of artists, and as a vocal coach, facilitator and lecturer with organisations including the University of Falmouth and intergenerational arts charity Magic Me.
