Markéta DVOŘÁKOVÁ (CZ)

Markéta Dvořáková (mezzo-soprano), began her solo career in 2001 whilst studying- at first as a concert singer, though she quickly became a sought-after opera soloist. She soon showed herself to be a distinct vocal talent at several prestigious music festivals: Ars Cameralis Katowice 2001 and 2006, Munich 2002, Berlin 2003, Smetana€™s Litomyšl 2003, GórnoÅ›lÄ…ski Festiwal 2003, Banská Bystrica 2004 and 2006, Paris 2005, XVFestival Mitte Europa 2006 and so on.

Since 2004, she has guested at leading Czech and foreign venues, for example. The National Theatres inPrague,Brno,Berlin,Munich, Warsaw etc. Her domain is primarily roles from French operas (G. Bizet, Carmen, C. Saint - Saënse Dalila etc.), though of course her repertoire extends from Rossini operas to roles in contemporary world opera.

As a concert singer her repertoire includes such greats as the oratory works of J. D. Zelenka, G. B. Pergolesi, J. S. Bach, G. F. Händel, W. A. Mozart, A. Dvořák, B. Martinů and other composers of the 20th and 21st century. She is a much sought-after interpreter abroad, mainly for the great works of Antonín Dvořák (Requiem, Stabat Mater, Mass in D major). She is a soloist in several leading symphony orchestras and international chamber ensembles.

Her chamber concert activity is a chapter on its own. Her domain is primarily the late Romantic lyrical literature (Ravel, Mahler, Strauss, etc.). She has sung through virtually the whole of Europe as a chamber singer and her concerts are always highly rated. Meanwhile, she has put a great deal of effort into promoting unknown Czech lyrical literature abroad (including Jaroslav Ježek and J. B. Foerster, which she also recorded in 2006).

Recently Markéta Dvořáková has been moving across musical genres. She is a sought-after performer of contemporary music, with many composers writing especially for her. She sings compositions from globally-known experimental authors, for example. Giacinto Scelsi, John Cage, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich. She also enjoys vocal improvisation; in 2006 she undertook a successful tour of theUSAin this field. The main roles in several operas have been specifically written for her. Since 2002, she has been playing in Archa Theatre inPrague("Questioning Heaven in Vain€ directed by Jan Antonín Pitínský and "KarMa Tearoom€ directed by Jana Svobodová). She has recorded on CDs, on Czech Radio and Czech Television.
